Artistic Response

Objective:

Students will use their creativity to make a sculpture that represents Ann's emotional state.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.2

Structure:

To prepare for this activity, instruct students to bring in 10-12 random items they have around their house (things that don’t need to be returned), without telling them why. Also, bring in items like glue, twist ties, paint, and other crafty items that can assist them in making small sculptures.

Just like Ann has to use the diverse but limited items she has at hand to survive in the valley after (presumably) the nuclear war...
