    Evaluating Arguments

    Kind of Activity:

    Group Work

    Objective:

    Students will assess some of the arguments presented in the text.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.1

    Structure:

    This activity complements the “Identifying Arguments” activity from Day 3.

    To start the activity, write the following questions on the board: How do you know when an argument is compelling? What strategies do you use when you’re trying to convince someone of something? Then, organize students into small groups. Instruct them to spend about 5 minutes discussing the questions. Then, have each small group summarize what they talked about to the whole class.
