    All Privileges Great and Small

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will examine Herriot’s privilege, as well as their own privilege.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1

    Structure:

    Herriot states in this section that he has a “growing conviction that [he] was a privileged person.” In modern society, privilege is something that has increasingly become part of conversation as current events ask people to examine their own privilege. Ask students to talk about Herriot’s privilege.

    Questions you might ask are:

    - What is privilege? How do you think Herriot would define privilege?
