My Musings on Rice Anonymous

I’ve always enjoyed taking my homework outside. Rice’s thousands of oak trees and expansive quads provide an excellent study environment, and perhaps I’ll sit under one and review notes from my Approaches to Social Policy course. Between outdoor study sessions, I’d be excited to learn and debate about public policy through the Baker Institute’s Student Forum. With Rice’s speech and debate team, I could keep my public speaking and extemporaneous analysis skills sharp.

It’s incredibly important to me to teach as I learn. Through Rice SPLASH, I’d be able to give back ‘Beyond the Hedges’ and teach 5th through 8th graders about something which I’m knowledgeable and passionate, perhaps a 50-minute crash course on global food and culture. And overall, the more I learn about Rice, the more I’m confident the Rice community is one I’d be able to contribute to, engage with, and learn from.
