What leads Bernard to Sidley Park? Why has he come to see Hannah, and yet hides his identity from her? Why is she angry when she finds out who he is?

Bernard has come to Sidley Park because he has found "The Couch of Eros," which Chater inscribed to Septimus, amongst some books belonging to Byron. Bernard learns from Chloë that there is a historian working there already, but he does not know her name. He realizes who she is, and is scared that she will not help him if she learns his true identity because he wrote her last book a very negative review.
