Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet Book 1 Background

Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet Book 1 is a comic book published by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Published in 2016, the book features the main character Black Panther, who rules the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The name of the book, Black Panther, is to some extent related to the 1966 political Black Panther Party. The concept of this comic has been around since 1966, and now has developed into a well-known Marvel Universe character, as well as becoming a 2018 Marvel film.

Born in 1975, Ta-Nehisi Coates is an African American author and comic book writer. One of his most famous novels is Between the World and Me, which was published in 2015 and based off of a poem by Richard Wright. His mother being a teacher, this likely inspired him to take up a unique career in writing. His most famous comics are for sure the Black Panther series, (although he did not write the originals), since they have greatly expanded the series and inspired the film.
