T’Challa, the powerful king of Wakanda, has been away fighting alongside Avengers. However, he is forced to return home to curb the rebellion in his country. In his absence, the country was ruled by his step-sister, Shurim who has been killed in one of the attacks. Citizens seem to have lost faith in him. When he visits Great Mound, a mining site, he is met with attacks. Zenzi, a woman with mystic powers, instructs miners to attack his convoy. Rebellion is something that T’Challa is not used to. T’Challa also discovers that some people are planning to overthrow his government.
Among all Black Panthers, T’Challa is the only one perceived to be unworthy. Rebellion in Wakanda worries T’Challa because he wants to lead a united nation. Following the unrest, his genius stepmother, Ramonda, advises him to transfer some power to the people. The advice bears fruit, and T’Challa uses diplomacy to restore peace in Wakanda. Monarchy is a form of leadership that gives leaders absolute power. Wakandans are tired of this form of leadership and want power given to the people. Although T’Challa does not give up his position, he promises to be open-minded and listen to people’s views.
The author depicts Wakanda as a country with the most advanced technology. However, due to a lack of open political conversation, the citizens are still suffering. The monarchy form of leadership bars free speech. The author uses the book to explore the dangers of resisting political changes. Wakanda citizens need change and express their views through rebellion. T’Challa is obliged to start an open political conversation to quell the rebellion. The decision shows the importance of democracy, where every person can express their views.
