Creating an Influence Tree
Kind of Activity:
Group Work
Objective:
Students will make connections across chapters to see how Pecola’s parents’ lives influence her.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3
Structure:
Before the activity, ask students to do a 5-minute freewrite in response to this question: Who are the people who have influenced your life the most? Have students write as much as they can in 5 minutes and instruct them not to think or worry about grammar and just write.
