John's Journal
Kind of Activity:
Individual Writing
Objective:
Understanding of the characterization of John and his life in Malpais.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.3
Structure:
Students will write a journal entry from John's perspective. Ask students to write as John on the reservation, without specifying time or scene. Students may wish to describe an incident from the text from John's point of view, or to describe an scene of their own imagining. Encourage students to empathize with John and write about things that he considers to be significant.
