Carrie White
Carrie is a 16-year-old teenage misfit who is bullied at school for her appearance and devout religious beliefs. She is also known to possess great powers, mainly those of telekinesis. She uses these newfound powers to take her revenge on her fellow classmates.
Rita Desjardin
Carrie’s high school gym teacher who takes pity on Carrie and tried to defend her against the actions of the other girls. She plays a maternal role to Carrie and tries to look out for her, by punishing the other girls who bullied her, but this inadvertently only serves to makes things worse for Carrie.
Margaret White
Carrie’s devotedly religious mother, who believes that Carrie is in possession of her powers due to the fact that she has been possessed by the Devil. She inherently believes that Carrie is evil and must be killed, having little regard for her own daughter’s life over her fanatical beliefs.
Tommy Ross
Tommy is Sue’s boyfriend and Carrie’s love interest as the book develops. He is in love with Sue but at her urging, he asks Carrie to the prom in order to make up for the atrocious acts made by their peers against her. As he gets to know her, he realizes that she is very different to what he expected and he finds he has an attraction towards her. However, he dies from his wounds as a result if a prank towards Carrie on the prom night.
