Carrie Imagery

Blood

Blood is a significant and infamous image from this text. In one scene, Carrie gets her first period while showering in school. Her mother has not told her anything about this, so Carrie has no idea what is happening and believes she has been hurt. As a result of this Carrie is bullied relentlessly. At the prom, Carrie is covered with pig's blood by her bullies, which again humiliates Carrie and causes her to retaliate in an extreme way.

Violence

At the prom, Chris throws pig's blood on Carrie and Tommy and accidentally drops the bucket on Tommy, which kills him instantly. This shocking and accidental act of violence is used to show how bullying can have terrible consequences and sets the precedent for the extreme violence that will follow.

Carrie then uses her powers to cause an explosion, which sets the school on fire. This kills everyone who is present at the prom, making it the most significant act of violence in the novel. Following this, Carrie is stabbed by her own mother, who believes that her daughter is possessed by the devil. However, Carrie uses her powers to kill her mother by stopping her heart. Carrie then kills Chris and Billy by taking control of their car and crashing it.

Religion

Carrie's mother has extreme religious beliefs, which she imposes on her daughter. Carrie is brought up in a disturbing and abusive household due to her mother's beliefs. After Carrie sets fire to the school using her powers, her mother believes that she is possessed by a demonic spirit, and tries to kill her.

Supernatural

Carrie, the protagonist of the novel, discovers that she has telekinetic powers, realizing that she can control objects from far away. After Carrie is soaked with pig's blood at her prom, she uses her powers to get revenge. She locks the building and causes a fire which causes the school to explode, which kills everyone there. Carrie then uses her powers to kill her own mother and Chris and Billy.
