James Herondale
James is Cordelia's husband. James is a courageous and determined individual who wants to ensure his neighborhood is safe. The marriage between James and his wife is initially seen as a sham because it only upholds their family's reputation. A few days into their wedding, the newlyweds start experiencing challenges, including mysterious murders in their neighborhood.
James joins Merry Thieves to track down the killers. James later discovers that his grandfather is among the top suspects in the mysterious murders. The grandfather is a powerful demon called Belial, behind the mysterious deaths, including that of Cordlelia's father.
Cordelia Carstairs
Cordelia is the wife of James. The author depicts Cordelia as a concerned woman ready to sacrifice for her family's safety. Despite knowing that James does not love her, she accepts the marriage because that is the only to preserve their family's reputation. When Cordelia learns that her father has been mysteriously killed, she asks James to investigate and bring the killers to justice.

Unfortunately, the father becomes a victim of ruthless murders in the village. Cordelia and her husband, James, start an investigation to discover the killer's identity.
Lucie
Lucie is a close confidant of Grace and James. Lucie and Grace Blackthorn decide to undertake one of the most dangerous assignments. Lucie and Grace are determined to bring Jesse to life from his grave. The looming danger in this activity is that the demon in Jesse's corpse can destroy them instantly, but they are ready to finish the assignment.
Merry Thieves
Merry Thieves are undercover investigators who work closely with James to uncover the killers' identities in the Shadowhunter community. In recent days, the community has experienced mysterious killings, including the death of Cordelia's father.
Thomas
Thomas is the patrolling officer in Shadowhunter Village. Initially, James and the Merry Thieves suspect Thomas of the mysterious killings, but he insists he is innocent. Thomas' lawyer, Alistair, proves that Thomas has nothing to do with the murders, despite him being caught at the scene of the murder.
Mathew
Mathew is the secret lover of Cordelia, and they spend most of the time together when James is not around. When James discovers that Cordelia spends time with Mathew, he feels angry. However, toward the end of the novel, Cordelia confesses that she has nothing to do with Mathew and James forgives her.
