Lenny has polio. On her right leg, she wears calipers (a metal brace) which helps her to remain mobile. However, she walks with a limp and easily gets tired. Lenny doesn't seem bothered by her disability. When Godmother's workers' children tease her, she takes it good-naturedly. When Papoo and Ranna mimic her limp, she interprets it as a sign of affection. In Papoo's case, Lenny thinks that she understand the manipulative power of her walk.
