Character Analysis and Interview

Objective:

Students will use textual evidence to create a character analysis

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.1.C

Structure:

Have the students identify all the main characters and make a list on the board. Break the class into small groups and assign each group one of the characters to analyze (Lenny, Ayah, Ice-candy-man, Godmother, Ranna, Cousin, Imam Din, and others as needed). Instruct the groups that they must keep their assigned character secret from the rest of the class.
