Cronos Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Stake and Blood

At the beginning of the film, we see that the alchemist is killed with a wooden stake in his heart, and that his home is filled with basins of blood. These are symbols that he has turned himself into a vampire for eternity. The extreme thirst also turns from the gallon of water in the fridge at night to the poorly hid longing for the puddle of blood on the bathroom counter.

Games

Jesús plays hopscotch and puts a puzzle together with Aurora in his shop. This is a symbol that this man has found eternal youth by continuing to live young and play like a child. It is a visual representation that his energy has returned.

Cravings

Jesús sees a plate of bloody meat in the refrigerator and begins to have a craving. This is a symbol that he is being turned by the cronos which has pierced his flesh. It is more than a craving, and kind of like a magnetism.

Too Much Light

Jesús comes downstairs and immediately pulls the blinds shut at the breakfast table. This is a symbol that his sensitivity to the sun has increased as he is turning into a vampire.

Backwards Suit

Jesús awakens from being killed by Angel with his suit on backwards. This is a symbol that life has become death as everything has been turned around 180 degrees.
