Objective:

Students will compare a film and television adaptation of the novel, and will write a critical review that examines the adaptations' artistic choices.

Structure:

Have students watch clips from two different adaptations of the novel: the 1992 film directed by James Ivory, and the 2017 television adaptation from Starz/BBC. As they watch students should jot down notes on the ways the adaptations differ from the novel and from each other.
