Gerry
Gerry is the son of Giuseppe. He was born and raised in Belfast and in the midst of the clash between the IRA and the English military he is reckless to the point of causing riots in the city between its people and the military that patrols the streets. After his latest run in with the military and IRA he is sent to London by his parents where he is falsely accused of setting of a bomb in a pub killing five innocent people. He didn't commit the crime but serves 15 years in prison because the London investigators needed a win against the IRA. He's a rebellious young man who learns the hard lessons of life while in prison with his father and IRA leader Joe McAndrew.
Giuseppe
Giuseppe is Gerry's father. He's a man who's endured the temptations of life and choosing a side in the war between the IRA and the English military in his home of Belfast. Everything he does is to keep his family safe and to instill a sense of true self inside of them so that they don't meet the same fate as all those who are killing each other in the name of freedom. Giuseppe is falsely charged with being part of the London pub bombing and is sentenced to prison where he dies before finishing his time, but he is able to be with his son who he's grown apart from in Ireland.
Gareth Peirce
Gareth is the lawyer working with Giuseppe in trying to get him and the other falsely imprisoned victims out of their prison sentence. She must work her way through the bureaucracy and the web of lies that the English investigators have created in order to find any answers, which takes her 15 years to do. She is able to get the prisoners released when she is accidentaly given evidence she didn't previously have access to.
Joe McAndrew
McAndrew is the leader of the IRA. He tells the investigators that they pinned the London pub bombing on the wrong people before being put in prison with Gerry and Giusepe. He is a man that is willing to do anything necessary to stay alive and he is able to recruit Gerry to his cause as he gets results through violence. But when he sets a guard on fire Gerry sees the truth of who this man truly is.
