"I never thought I'd trust an English person again, especially a lawyer."
We hear Gerry's voice being played on a tape that Gareth is playing in her car. What he says here holds great weight as it speaks directly to the relationship between the English and the IRA and the terrorist bombings that are taking place in rebellion against the English army.
"Remember, honest money goes further."
Giuseppe says this to Gerry after giving him money as he boards a ship to London. His words speak to the character of the man that he is as he has lived his whole life determined to live right so that his son will see what it means to endure regardless of the temptation that surrounds someone.
"I'm gonna shoot your dad."
Detective Pavis says this to Gerry as a way to get him to confess to the bombing in London. This statement represents the core of the detectives and their methods for getting what they want rather than getting the truth. By saying this to Gerry he's almost assured that he will be able to get a confession from the man which will be a public relations victory for the English, but it won't land the real murderers behind bars.
