In the Woods Imagery

The day that the narrator was abducted

This is a day that the narrator of the story recalls very well for on that day he was abducted together with two of his friends. He narrates the day as follows, ' As it was a hot, clear day, many residents were in their gardens and numerous witnesses saw the children at the various times during the afternoon, balancing along the wall at the end of the road, riding their bicycles and swinging on a tire swing.' The imagery in this narration is built by the use of adjectives such as' clear' and 'hot' to describe the day.

The narrator's clothing when he was found in the woods

The narrator was the only one who was found after three children were abducted. The clothing he was in is described as, '... I was wearing blue denim shorts, a white cotton t-shirt, white socks and white lace-up running shoes. The shoes were heavily bloodstained, the socks less heavily.' This description contains imagery because of the use of adjectives such as 'blood-stained' to describe the narrator's clothes. The description can be visualized in the mind of the reader.

The Detective's Clothing at the Murder Squad

The detective describes his clothing as, '... I had already had my new work clothes - beautifully cut suits in materials so fine they felt alive to your fingers, shirts with the subtlest of blue or green pinstripes, rabbit-soft cashmere scarves...' This description contains imagery from the use of adjectives that describe the color of the pinstripes.

The Detective

The detective describes himself as follows, 'On top of this I am tall, with a bony rangy build that can look lean and elegant if my suit is cut just right and fairly good looking in an off-beat way.' This description has imagery because the detective used adjectives such as 'tall' and 'bony' to describe himself.
