Clifford seems to worship Connie--he feels safest when she is around, even now that she doesn't do everything for him. He only wants her to make his tea. Clifford's greatest fear is that Connie will leave him, which will complete his emasculation. She is especially upset when he tells her that he is nothing without her and only lives for her--this makes her feel guilty about pursuing her own desires.
