Alan
Alan is a 29 year old young man who replays his life at 17 when he went to live with his father in California. His dad had abandoned him years previously. He simply wants a close relationship with his dad, but finds resistance when his father demands he work full-time along with going to school full-time, and is ultimately kicked out of the house because his father thinks he is gay because he isn't laying any girls.
Douglas
Douglas is Alan's father. He's married to Ronnie and has two boys, Jack and Jerry, with her. He and Ronnie are fostering Carol and Penny, two teenage girls as well when they let Alan come to live with them in San Diego, California. Douglas wants Alan to get a job to pay his way for school, and wants him to become an amateur photographer with him, taking photos of nearly naked girls. He is highly demanding of Alan and wants his son to get laid, and because he doesn't he believes he's gay. Penny also accuses him of coming on to her.
Ronnie
Ronnie is Douglas' wife. She keeps the family managed and allows Douglas to have a lot of rope when it comes to photographing naked girls and calling it a hobby. She learns more about Douglas' past when Alan explodes on his father telling him that he killed his sister by not being there for his mom during her stillbirth. Ronnie overlooks Penny's accusation of harassment by Douglas and demands that Carol not keep pills in her house afraid that the younger kids will take them.
Penny
Penny is a teenage girl who is staying with Douglas and Ronnie, her foster family until she turns eighteen. Her father left her and her mother died. She has lived in their home for a year. She dates a young man named Phil who everyone but Alan thinks is gay. Douglas comes on to her while they are developing pictures and she tells Ronnie she cannot live in their house anymore.
Carol
Carol is a ward of the state living with Douglas and Ronnie. She has been with them for a year and a half, and is promiscuous. She is dating a strict Catholic boy who she wants to marry. They don't have sex, and Carol begins to take pills, sneaking them from Ronnie. She ends up being killed in a car crash with a young man, who isn't her boyfriend who was drunk, driving them off of a cliff.
