"I know, don't worry, we'll let you sleep. Tomorrow anyway. Everyone keeps their own hours."
Ronnie says this to Alan upon arriving to their home on the first day. It is a statement that reflects a truth about the family: they say one thing, but quite often the opposite occurs. On a deeper level, it reveals that this will not be a place of rest for Alan.
"They want you there five days a week--they don't give a damn if you sit on your fanny or stand on your head, man they don't care as long as you show up--"
Douglas is upset with Alan for missing work. Alan explains to him that he gets more done in three days that the rest of the men do in five. Douglas doesn't care, he wants his son to show up, and has very little sympathy for the 17 year old who is working full-time and going to school full-time.
"She was born a bloody dead mass! Not even human--thrown to the trash to burn and you did it! You know it!"
Alan erupts on his father, who has accused him of being a homosexual, with these bullets for words. He lets rip his fury at his father who abandoned him and his sister and mom all for his cheep thrills, and has never accepted responsibility for it in his life.
