    Why does Orestes hide from Electra at first, and what does that tell us about him?

    Orestes hides from Electra because he wants to make sure that the women's grief is sincere and that they haven't just come to Agamemnon's grave out of ceremony. This tells us that Orestes has become paranoid and suspicious after the death of his father. Though the reader will hear much of Orestes's piousness and honor, this first vision of Orestes portends how he has changed after his father's death.
