Libation Bearers is the second installment of Aeschylus's tragic trilogy, the Oresteia, which follows the story of how the Curse of Atreus infiltrates and affects Agamemnon and his family. The Oresteia is one of the only surviving manuscripts from ancient Greece, yet it exists as one of the most influential pieces of Western literature within the entire canon. The trilogy's survival and the work's complex characters and plot have caused Aeschylus to be considered by many to be the father of Western drama.
