Irony of Zeb's Father
Zeb’s father was a preacher, but it is ironical that he was not concerned about the planet. He was not an environmentally friendly person. He does not bother about the deteriorating conditions on earth because of oil or gas and urges people to destroy earth through his preaching. It is also ironical that his sons go against him to save the planet. They hack his account and leave their home and family. They even conceal their identities because they do not want their father to find them through his connections. Eventually they lay the foundation of a community of God’s Gardiners, who dedicate their lives to prevent the earth from damaging.
Irony of Criminals
The criminals attempt to kill others just because they feel themselves immune to the pain. It is ironical that they destroy the lives of others for the sake of their pleasure. They killed Amanda and attacked other people because they wanted to play the game of the death. They do not get indulge in the fight and compel the common people to kill each other in the arena. Their brains stopped working in a natural way and they got satisfaction by inflicting pain on others. Their capacity of empathizing with others had ended and their sole motive in life was to become happy by watching the people suffering and dying.
Irony of the Game
Another irony in the book is that games are usually considered as healthy activities which people perform in their free time. The game which has been played in the novel is neither pleasurable nor healthy at all. The painball game is solely based on destruction and deterioration of society. The organizers keep themselves at a distance and do not involve directly at any level. They compel the players to fight for their survival and do not provide them a chance to avoid playing. The painball game exploits the innocent folks for amusements.
