Tony Kushner, an American playwright best known for his two-part play on the HIV/AIDS crisis in the United States, Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, reports Bertolt Brecht as one of his most important influences. In 2009, taking into account the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Kushner decided that the time was ripe for a new translation of the play. This piece offers some of his brief thoughts on the importance of the play as well as a brief interview with the main actor in a new production using Kushner's translation.
