Mrs. Dalloway is a text rich in psychological detail, and because some of its most important exposition is done in the midst of free-associative thought, it can occasionally be important to signal key events in the plot to the class. The novel, and Woolf's own biography, deal with topics of depression and suicide that may be alarming or troubling for some students, and these moments--particularly in lesson 4--should be handled with some care.
