Why do you think Miss Lucy tells the students what is going to happen to them? Why might the other teachers not be telling them?
Miss Lucy seems to worry that students will have false hope for their futures—that they will dream big, and then have those dreams crushed. She believes that allowing those hopes to be fostered is cruel, because the children deserve to know they will never be able to live a normal, free life. The other Hailsham guardians are of a different school of thought. They seem to want to give students a happy time to remember when their lives become more difficult.
