Difficulties of girls
Norah’s relationship with her ex-boyfriend Tal was very complicated. Norah ironically says her friends that if she is “a horrid bitch from the planet Schizophrenia, it is because boys make her one.”In such a way, Norah blames her ex-boyfriend for her behavior and proves the fact that only boys are guilty of her bad character.
Denial of truth
When Norah and Nick meet for the first time, she calls him “poor schmuck”. And agreeing to the fact that he is “a real poor schmuck”, Nick is wondered and asks why she calls him in such a way. It is very ironic, because Nick claims that he is a poor schmuck and then he still dares to wonder and take offense as to why he is so called.
Always out of control
When Norah talks about her life in her first chapter, she says that “she has to think about Caroline. She always has to think about Caroline.” Readers can think that Caroline is her younger sister or even a pet, of which Norah should take care. However, Caroline is her best friend, who always is drunk. It seems to be ironic, because Caroline is an adult girl, but she behaves like a child, who needs to be under control.
