    The Yeats Impersonator Contest

    Kind of Activity:

    Performance

    Objective:

    Students will understand the importance of rhythm and line breaks, while also practicing public speaking and dramatic reading.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.6, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.5

    Structure:

    This will be a kind of Yeats impersonator competition.

    First, before the students will listen to a few clips of Yeats reading his own poetry. Then, they will have a choice of reading either their own poems from the previous day's homework assignment, or, one of the poems in The Tower trying to do their best to impersonate Yeats.

    For comic relief, you could play a recording of Ezra Pound...
