    Discuss Rabbit's work for Mrs. Smith. How did he get the job? Why is he so content working there?

    Rabbit is working for Mrs. Horace Smith, a parishioner of Eccles'. Eccles helped get him the job, which consists of working on her late husband's eight acres. She claims he was the gardener and she knows nothing of the work: she's a farmer's daughter and would much rather have had alfalfa sprouts or buckwheat growing. It's flexible work, with Rabbit appreciates. $40/week, but not full-time. For Rabbit, the flowerbeds "smell like the newest thing under Heaven."
