Shadow Kiss Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Dream (Symbol)

When Rose and Lisa get into the car accident, Lisa saves Rose’s life with the help of her power. These two girls are connected and Rose can feel everything, what Lisa feels. Rose even can see Lisa’s sleeps and nightmares, which sometimes disturb her. The vision of dreams is Rose’s peculiarity, which gives an opportunity to get to know about all Lisa’s troubles and emotional experience. The dream is a symbol of calmness and truth, which Lisa can secrete. It is a Rose’s reliable helper, which connects girls and forces them to be honest with each other.

Church (Symbol)

Reading this story, you can notice a beautiful place on the territory of the vampire school. It is a church. This is a favorite Lisa’s place, where she can relax and think over her life and amazing moments in the academy. In the first book of the Vampire Academy series the church attic is a place of Lisa and Christian’s first meeting. But in this book we can also observe their solitude in the church. The church is not only a symbol of faith and prayer. This place symbolizes the first love between two people, quietness and peace.

Hope, Love, Struggle (Motif)

Many people can say that this novel doesn’t differ from usual stories about vampires, blood and silver stakes. But to be honest, Mead's aim wasn’t to create an amazing story about love with fantastic elements. The major aim is to show some positive strains of person’s character, which help to struggle against life problems. And just only this third book of the Vampire Academy series show the real feelings and behavior of the person, who gets into trouble. The brave Rose always struggles with evil to protect her best friend Lisa. She doesn’t lose hope to find Dimitri after his disappearance. And despite the fact that Dimitri turned into Strigoi, Rose still loves him, because the real love never dies away.
