Students will study how Morrison uses the stages of the Hero's Journey in Milkman's trip south, and will respond to this information creatively.

Structure:

In Part II, the novel shifts focus to Milkman's journey south. Throughout this section, Morrison alludes to famous journey myths and uses tropes that are common to journey narratives. One of the best ways to study this is to use Joseph Campbell's framework of the Hero's Journey/Monomyth.
