Song of Solomon is American author Toni Morrison's third novel, published in 1977. The novel tells the story of Macon "Milkman" Dead III, a Black man living in a midwestern American city from the 1930s through the 1960s, as he reckons with questions of family history and personal identity. Significantly, Song of Solomon is Morrison's only novel featuring a male protagonist, as her writing most often explores the experiences of Black women.
