Chapter 10 - Parametric Equations and Polar Coordinates - 10.1 Exercises - Page 667: 32

Answer

The triangle is represented in the following graph: --------

Work Step by Step

- Result of Exercise 31(a): $x = x_1 + (x_2-x_1)t$ and $y = y_1 + (y_2 - y_1)t$ $0 \leq t \leq 1$ 1. Determine the parametric equations that describe the line that joins the vertices A and B. $A = (1,1)$ $B = (4,2)$ $x = 1 + (4 - 1)t = 1 + 3t$ $y = 1 + (2-1)t = 1 + t$ 2. Repeat the process for B and C: $C = (1,5)$ $x = 4 + (1-4)t = 4 - 3t$ $y = 2 + (5 - 2)t = 2 + 3t$ 3. Finally, do it for C and A: $x = 1 + (1-1)t = 1$ $y = 5 + (1 - 5)t = 5 - 4t$
