A sampling method is independent when the individuals selected for one sample do not dictate which individuals are to be in a second sample. Here the sampling method is independent because the individuals are grouped randomly and they do not know which drink they consumed (also because members in one group do not determine the members in the other group).
The response variable is reaction time which is quantitative.
