Testosterone is produced by Leydig cells. When the hypothalamus senses that testosterone is needed, it secretes gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) which acts on the anterior pituitary gland. GnRH stimulates the pituitary to produce both follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH). LH stimulates the Leydig cells to produce testosterone from cholesterol.
