Acanthamoeba and Naegleria are free living amoebae that are responsible for causing primary amoebic meningoencephalopathy. These amoebas are present in lakes, ponds, ditches, swimming pools, humidifiers and contact lens solution. In order to prevent amoebic infection, a person should use sterile solution to clean contact lens. In addition, swimming pools should be properly chlorinated and people should avoid swimming in contaminated lakes.
