Clostridium botulinum is a bacteria that produces botulinum toxin. It is a neurotoxin that acts to prevent the release of the acetylcholine from axon endings into the synaptic cleft. It basically prevents the fusion of acetylcholine vesicle with the axons cytoplasmic membrane, thus blocking its release. It prevents nerve impulse conduction. So, the nerve cell growth doesn’t play any role in the action of botulinum toxin. .
