A molecular orbital is formed from the combination of two atomic orbitals from different atoms. Two types of information we gain from molecular orbital calculations are: a) Energy level diagrams b) The shape of the orbitals involved. We can use the information in the form of electron density maps or (aforementioned) energy level diagrams to describe the bonding within a molecule.
