In a crowded Delhi market, a car bomb goes off claiming the lives of two brothers, Tushar and Nakul Khurana. Their friend, Mansoor Ahmed, survives the attack but is left with severe physical injuries. He soldiers on with the journey. The deceased are Hindus while the survivor is a Muslim. After learning the death of their sons, Vikas and Deepa Khurana are devastated. Vikas was the most affected. He started regretting giving up his career as a chartered accountant. Furthermore, he starts perceiving himself as a failure. The Khuranas even lied to the people who came to bereave with them that they had sent the boys for a watch.

Later, Mansoor gets an opportunity to study in the U.S. However, he is forced to cut his studies short and return to India after his hand starts aching. The doctors tell him that the aching is caused by physical trauma that originated from the bomb. The effects of the bomb are traumatizing. Deepa Khurana wants to see the man accused of bombing the market jailed. We learn that the man accused of perpetrating this wicked act is a soft-spoken person called Malik Aziz. However, he is not the real bomber and police have mistakenly arrested him instead of Shockie, the actual bomber.

The death of the two boys leads to anguish and contentment. The book makes readers get insight into how acts of terrorism can haunt the lives of victims in later life. Although the attack occurred when Mansoor was twelve years old, he is physically and psychologically affected in adult life. Mansoor is unable to become a computer programmer. As a result, his sense of self has been affected.
