Jack Potter, a marshal of the town Yellow Sky, has gone to San Antonio to marry and now is going by the train to his home town with his newly married wife. It seems that they are happy; they chatter constantly. The other passengers send them sarcastic looks, but they seem not to notice. The bride is not very beautiful, neither is she very young, but Jack thinks that he loves he, so he is rather satisfied. When they are approaching the town, it becomes evident that Jack begins feeling very anxious, and think more and more of how his friends will meet his wife. He has not told anyone why he goes to San Antonio. When they step off the train in Yellow Sky, there is nobody on the platform who know Jack, so they two quickly go to Potter’s house.
In Yellow Sky there is a saloon called “Weary Gentlemen”. On an idle afternoon, a few people are sitting there and enjoying the conversation, when a young man rushes in and informs that Scratchy Wilson is drunk again. One of the visitors does not know who Wilson is, so the rest tell him that Wilson is “a wonder with a gun”. Each time when he gets drunk he takes revolvers and go along the town shooting everywhere. The owner of the saloon shuts the door and everyone is silent, as few shootings can be already heard.
Scratchy Wilson is walking idly along the street. He is yelling and it is obvious that he is in the search for adventures and fighting. Nobody appears on the streets, all the houses are shut, so Wilson decides to go directly to the Potter’s hose, as it is Jack Potter who is always responding to Wilson’s crazy tricks.
Jack Potter is walking meanwhile with his wife, he is very anxious to show her the house, but just when they turn the corner Jack meets Wilson face to face. Wilson thinks that Potter is going to attack him and puts a gun into his face, but Jack says that he is not going to fight Wilson tonight as he has brought his wife, and he is unarmed. Wilson does not believe him at first, but when he sees a lady with him, he seems astonished. Being persuaded that Jack is unarmed Wilson steps back and goes away, leaving the newly married character in peace.
