The Butter Battle Book Imagery

The Butter Battle Book Imagery

Yooks and Zooks

The two warring groups are actually portrayed as being pretty similar to each other, despite their antagonism towards each other. They are both violent groups who are determined to outdo the other. Neither group seems to have much care for life; all they seem to care about is winning the war.

Weapons

The weapons are described as highly deadly weapons with the potential to wipe out hundred of people, yet they are ridiculously named. For example, the “Eight-Nozzled Elephant-Toted Boom Blitz" is one of the most comical sounding weapons, yet it is one of their most lethal weapons.

Grandpa

Usually when one thinks of grandfathers, they have imagery of a king and gentle old man. However, the grandfather in this story is the complete opposite. He is filled with vengeance and hatred for the Yooks, even in his elderly ager, and lives his whole life with the attitude of getting one over them.

The Boy

The boy is portrayed as an innocent who has been thrust into the middle of the decade’s long war between the Yooks and Zooks. His grandfather is adamant on teaching him about his hatred for the Yooks, which makes it all the more sad, as usually grandparents are meant to be wiser than their grandchildren.
