One's study of The Epic of Gilgamesh might be enhanced by reading other pieces of Sumerian literature, such as the earlier, Sumerian Gilgamesh poems, the Code of Hammurabi, and the Innana hymns of Enheduanna.
Student may also benefit from reading other epic poems from the ancient world, such as the works of Homer and Virgil.
The Hebrew Old Testament seems to have been influenced by the Epic of Gilgamesh in several places. By contextualizing or pairing it with The Epic of Gilgamesh, this could be a good opportunity for students to read portions of the Hebrew Old Testament through a historical/anthropological lens.
