The hurricanes are violent or tragic acts that Victor experiences. His uncles fighting is a hurricane. The treatment of Indians in the United States is a hurricane. His parents’ alcoholism is a hurricane for him and a way his parents deal with their own personal hurricanes. The hurricane acts as a symbol of the turmoil that has become a natural part of Victor’s life. Just as hurricanes sweep through regularly, the violence, pain, and tragedy in Victor’s life also comes through with regularity.
