Based on the information in “The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn’t Flash Red Anymore,” what are the characteristics of a reservation hero?
According to what Victor says, a hero must be exceptional at something (like basketball) and remain exceptional in the minds of the people. Heroes on the reservation are never forgotten and seem to grow even more heroic as their stories are told and retold. It may be worth noting that Victor and Adrian consistently refer to the children they want to deem heroic as “warriors.” This suggests a connection between the modern day heroes (basketball players) and the ancestral Indian heroes (warriors).
