What in the novel foreshadowed Blanche leaving Dirk for Strickland?

Students should be able to point to several things that, in retrospect, foreshadowed Blanche leaving Dirk for Strickland. Blanche getting annoyed with Dirk for speaking too freely about personal business and being too nice is a subtle indication that she's not all that happy in the relationship. The most prominent foreshadowing, however, is that Blanche and Strickland didn’t speak at all while she was nursing him, but suddenly the narrator noticed a strange look between them.
