Chapter 34
The narrator begins chapter 34 by saying that the end of Blanche's relationship with Strickland is disastrous. Dirk comes to see the narrator and tells him that Blanche has attempted suicide and is in the hospital. She and Strickland had a fight with ended with him leaving. Dirk is so distraught he can barely speak. He went to see Blanche immediately in the hospital, but Blanche told him to leave. She's in very bad shape in the hospital. Now Dirk wants the narrator to come to the hospital with him in case she might see him instead. When they arrive, the doctor says she's too sick to see anyone.
