The short answer questions in this guide are meant to test reading recall and mainly cover concrete facts in the reading. The thought questions are meant to stimulate discussion. Some are interpretive and others ask students to recall concrete information from the story. Customize them at your will, or re-purpose them as essay questions for the end of the unit. If you choose to re-purpose them in this way, students should develop more formal responses than the ones they may come up with in class.
