Why do you think Erik arranged the kerfuffle with Mme. Giry, the two managers, and the 20,000 francs?
Erik seems to have arranged this kerfuffle for his own amusement, as well as to demonstrate his unwavering control of the Opera House. These events showed the doubting managers how far Erik’s power reaches in the Opera House. Where they doubted before, they now know for sure that Erik can do virtually anything he pleases.
